Reliable energy supply is the foundation of smoothly running everyday life and a well-functioning society. The growing use of information technology presupposes a continuous flow of energy. The increasingly digital society requires a reliable electricity supply from electricity network companies, and customers do not tolerate long power outages. In addition, the northern location of Finland makes reliable district heating a necessity. For Elenia, ensuring smoothly running everyday life for customers is an integral part of daily work.
As a forerunner in weatherproof electricity networks, Elenia Oy has made securing a reliable electricity supply its priority in all conditions. In practice, this means that all new investments and old network renovations are implemented as underground electricity networks. Extreme weather conditions are increasing and making the construction of weatherproof networks absolutely necessary. At the same time, investments in basic infrastructure are creating local jobs while also maintaining the competitive ability of Finland.
Elenia Oy is the first Nordic electricity distribution company to have received the highly valued PAS 55 certification from Lloyd’s Register, a British company specialising in corporate safety and risk management. Following the PAS 55 certificate granted in 2013, Elenia was awarded a certificate based on the new international ISO 55001 standard as evidence of its high-quality electricity network management. The two certificates represent international recognition of the quality of Elenia’s electricity network development, construction, operation and maintenance.
As a competitive and reliable form of heating, district heating plays a key role in cities, towns and urban centres. This easy and environmentally friendly form of heating is used by companies, housing cooperatives and households as well as the public sector.
Customers’ expectations and increasingly strict environmental norms require heating companies to continually reduce their environmental impact. In recent years, Elenia Lämpö Oy has constantly increased the share of renewable fuels in its production. Renewable wood-based fuels represent more than 60% of its district heating production. The company will continue to develop its operations by growing this share and making its production even more energy-efficient.
Both Elenia Oy and Elenia Lämpö Oy have an ISO 1400:2015 environmental management system and an OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety system in place.
